Studio 1219’s Fire & Ice On The Water coming September 18 & 19

Posted September 03, 2010

Studio 1219 presents its annual “Fire & Ice On The Water Art Education Festival and Fine Arts & Crafts Fair” 10:00am – 5:00pm Saturday, September 18, 2010, and Sunday, September 19, 2010.  The free event will be held at Vantage Point, in Port Huron Michigan. This is the Studio’s hands-on, come-and-get-messy, playing-in-the-arts Arts Festival unlike any other. Plus, Fire & Ice is “Going Green” this year, inviting everyone to come explore all the ways to re-use everyday items in unusual ways.

Studio 1219 and its cultural partners once again host this unique event, with lots of arts activities throughout the days:

· The “Children’s Canvas” tent will have art projects for ages 14 and under and includes a preschool area featuring thumbprint critters and rock painting.

· The “Adult Hands-On” tent will have unique art projects for 14 and up such as liquid watercolor banners, airbrushing, pop tab bracelets, and recycled glass vases using wire.

· Visit the “Arts in Action” tent and see the artists hard at work demonstrating their talents and unusual styles in a wide range of art mediums such as woodcarving, printmaking, lampworking, weaving, and more!

· In the “Raku Yard,” there will be glazing and firing of pottery for the public for a small fee.

· Join in the “Clay Games”—a team sculpture competition and pinch-pot relays. Children’s pinch pot relays will be held at 11:30am and 3:30pm each day.  Businesses are also welcome to market themselves with coupons and free samples of their products while they compete at 2:00pm each day.

· Studio 1219’s “Artist Network” will be present with a tent filled with fine art for sale.

· The Port Huron Museum will host an art history area of “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel” where participants get to try their hand at painting on the ceiling.

· In the “Artist’s Alley” a beguiling blend of artisans barter their exclusive creations in this juried fine arts and crafts fair hosted by Studio 1219.

· Studio 1219 “Gallery Tours” happen on the hour, featuring over 100 Artists displaying and selling their artwork in the Studio’s five galleries. Transportation via the Downtown Shuttle will be available to and from the Fire and Ice Festival and Studio 1219.

· Wander through the “Emerging Artist Tent” where art students of all ages will work on the collaborative project of painting a car.

· In the “Young Collectors” tent, youths 17 and under can start their own collection of original Fine Art.

· “Enter Stage Right Theatre Arts” tent will host four stations of behind-the-scenes theatre, including the popular wound makeup station.

· Acheson Ventures Farmers Market will be open for the festival each day between the hours of 8:00am – 2:00pm.

· “Kites for a Cause” will be on display and flown from the Vantage Point area during Fire and Ice.
