Studio 1219’s Executive Director to Direct PHCT’s “THE WIZ!”

Auditions for Port Huron Civic Theatre’s teen musical production of the Broadway show “THE WIZ” will be 6pm till 10pm, Tuesday, May 31 and Thursday, June 2 at “The Junkyard” (in the outlet mall on Range and I-94) 1661 Range Road, B160, Kimball, Michigan. Studio 1219’s Executive Director, Lee-Perry Belleau, will direct the show.
Auditionees are asked to come prepared to sing a song they know and are comfortable with (please bring sheet music). (A song from the show will be used if an auditionee does not bring a song.) Besides singing, auditionees will also be asked to read a selection from the show, and participate in a brief movement audition.
“THE WIZ!” is the crazy, street-wise version of L. Frank Baum’s book, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and was nominated for eight Tony awards. Director Belleau is looking for 30 to 40 teens, ages 13 through 19. Roles include: Aunt Em, Dorothy, Addaperle, Scarecrow, Tinman, Lion, Evillene, the Wiz, and monkeys, citizens, munchkins and more.
Performances will be at McMorran Place Theatre in Port Huron, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, July 29, 30 and 31.
Script readings for the auditions will include: Act One, Scene 1 (pp 14 & 15) Addaperle, Dorothy, Munchkins; Act One, Scene 6 (pp 38 & 39) Dorothy, Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man; Act One, Scene 8 (pp 48 & 49) The Wiz, Dorothy, Lion, Scarecrow, Tin Man; Act Two, Scene 2 (pp 62 & 63) Evillene, Dorothy, Lion.
