Studio 1219 reopens with “The Best of the Best” show
Posted January 18, 2010
After record sales in December, Studio 1219 celebrates its reopening this week with “The Best of the Best:” a self-juried show featuring all of the members of the Studio’s Artists’ Network. Each artist in the Network is showcasing their one, best-piece. The show includes paintings, ceramics and pottery, mixed-media, jewelry and more. “The Best of the Best” show opens 7pm Friday, January 22 with a complimentary wine and cheese reception for the public—and the opportunity to meet the artists. The reception runs until 9pm. This is the first-ever art show featuring the entire Artists’ Network of Studio 1219.
The Studio was closed from January first through the eighteenth to undergo its annual “shut down.” “We take this time, each year, to close for the first few weeks of January to handle large maintenance jobs, re-set the Studio and get ready for upcoming events in the new year,” said Studio Executive Director Lee-Perry Belleau. “If you’re a regular visitor to the Studio, you’ll notice the changes immediately,” he continued. “You’ll also notice there’s a lot of great artwork at resonable prices.”
This year, Studio volunteers have painted St. Clair County Community College’s Spiral Gallery, the upstairs hallways, and one of the incubator spaces. They have also built shelving and storage in the Citizens First Pottery Studio, refinished the floors, and have begun preparations for the Studio’s Annual Gala, Saturday, February 27th. Besides “The Best of the Best” show in the Chase and Van Gogh Galleries upstairs, new art from the Artists’ Network has also been installed in the Acheson and Desmond Galleries downstairs.
