Studio 1219 Opens Its Next Exhibit: “Tetrad: A Group of Four” April 8

Posted March 31, 2011

Studio 1219 will open its next show, “Tetrad: A Group of Four” with a wine and hors d’ouvres reception 6pm to 9pm on Friday, April 8.  The show consists of a first-time collaboration of the works of four diverse regional artists:  from the Detroit area, well-known photographer Gregory Hodgson and ceramic artist James Lutomski; from the Blue Water area, multimedia artist Debra Plane-Dunkel, and oil painter Cecil Williams.  The artists have each created new works for the show.

Lutomski is Chair of the Art Department at Marygrove College, and his ceramic works are internationally known.  On invitation from the Gangjin Celadon Korean Association, Lutomski spent five days exhibiting, demonstrating and studying Korean pottery methods at the Gangjin Celadon Festival in collaboration with Korean clay artists. He then exhibited some of the initial Korean work at TANK in Hazel Park.  He earned his B.F.A. and M.F.A., from Wayne State University.

Williams, of Port Huron, received a Bachelors Degree in both art and education at Wayne State University, and has been in numerous shows throughout the region, including Macomb Council for the Arts Prestige Art Show, Detroit Artist’s Market Garden, and the 61st National Exhibition Cooperstown Art Association.

Royal Oak native Plane-Dunkel now lives in St. Clair.  Her paper creations have been shown at the 38th Annual Eastern Michigan International Art Exhibition, the Detroit Artists’ Market, and she won the cover design for “Patterns” magazine, and first place for “Trends” cover contest and promotional poster design.

New Baltimore photographer Hodgson has been shooting since 1970 and his work has been displayed extensively throughout southeast Michigan.  Examples of his work include a multiple photographic editorial in Hour Magazine entitled “Signs of the Times “ and a one man show at the Detroit Historical Museum called “Ghost Ads.” He has had recent gallery shows at The Inside/Out Gallery in Traverse City, The 4th Street Gallery in Ann Arbor and the Peoples Art Festival at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit.

The Tetrad Exhibit runs thru May 15.
