Studio 1219 Hosts Friday Reception for two new exhibits
Posted September 06, 2010
This Friday, September 10, Studio 1219 hosts a reception for the opening of two new exhibits. The reception is from 6pm till 9pm and officially opens the exhibit featuring Cecil Williams’ solo show “Contemporary Representationalism.” Also opening at that time is “Uncommon Threads: Fiber Arts” showcasing the work of local artists who ply their trade in fibers – hand weaving, baskets, quilts, hanging art, and more. The two shows run through October 3rd.
Cecil Williams of Ft. Gratiot is a member of Studio 1219’s Artists’ Network. He received a Bachelors Degree in both art and education at Wayne State University in 1972. Cecil’s style is very unique and recognizable. He draws inspiration for his art from his life experiences, imagination, feelings, and values. He said, “I try to put a little of myself in each painting which makes each work personal. It is not only my wish to have my paintings enjoyed by people but to have them convey a message.” Beyond all else, Cecil loves to paint.
Cathee Roehrig, another Studio artist, is one of the fiber artists. She loves all types of art, and creates cartoons, realistic artwork and abstract pieces. Having spent seven years in visual merchandising and four years in advertising, she appreciates what goes into making something creative and what excites a person to want to go out into the world and explore the options. Cathee says, “We should be surrounded by what pleases our senses, encourages our interests and stimulates our imaginations.”
The public is invited to the reception to meet the artists, preview their work, and enjoy complimentary wine and hors d’ouvres with friends and family.
