Studio 1219 hosts free art event

Nearly two dozen young people and their parents stopped by Studio 1219 on Sunday in Port Huron to make three-dimensional collages at the Free Art Sunday event.
Young artists fused mat board, foam core, cast off greeting cards and torn pages from Michigan travel guides to make their wildest imaginings permanent and tangible.
“As an artist, it’s interesting to watch,” teacher Lezly Straub said.
“Some get real quiet and some get really animated. There’s always a solution, and it’s not always your solution. They’re going to do something that you’re going to be surprised with.”
Straub said the event, which takes place every third Sunday of the month, is a great opportunity for parents and children to interact in an unusual setting.
Anyone interested in finding out more about Free Art Sunday should call the studio at (810) 984-2787.
