Studio 1219 Does a “Double Take Redux”
Posted March 01, 2011
Last year’s “Double Take” was so successful for Studio 1219 and its artists, the Studio is offering it again, this year. “Double Take Redux” opens to the public with a wine and hors d’ouvres reception 6pm to 9pm Friday, March 4. Area artists from different arts groups are collaborating on the unique exhibit that will be on display and on sale in the Chase and Van Gogh galleries of Studio 1219, 1219 Military, Port Huron. The public is invited to attend the free opening.
From March 4 through April 4 this two-part exhibit will feature the work of photographers, painters, and potters. Visitors will see two or more views of each subject: one will be the original photograph and the others an interpretation of that photo by a painter, potter, or sculptor.
“It was such a success last year—sparking much enthusiasm in the groups that are involved—that the artists asked to do it again,” said the Studio’s Executive Director, Lee-Perry Belleau. “The photographers are excited to discover how their work will be interpreted, and we think the public will be, too,” he continued. Those groups include Studio 1219’s Artists’ Network, members of the Blue Water Art Association, and members of the Shutterbug’s Camera Club. All have worked feverishly to put together this unique exhibit. Over 60 new works of art have been created with great creativity and flair. Patrons will be fascinated by getting a glimpse of the ways photographers view and capture the world through their lenses, then rediscovering the same subject through the imaginative interpretation and skill of the painters, potters and sculptors.
The exhibit also meets several of Studio 1219’s goals, including:
1.) Supporting “buying locally” as an economic boost for our area;
2.) Collaborating with other groups;
3.) Raising awareness of the importance of these kinds of efforts to provide something of interest to the community, and;
4.) Enhancing the quality of life in our community.
Studio 1219 is a nonprofit arts organization, serving the needs of artists and the community through arts-based initiatives.
