Studio 1219 Announces Writers’ Group
Posted May 18, 2011
Studio 1219 will begin a series of writers’ groups on Wednesday, June 1 from 6:30pm till 8:30pm. The idea of the groups is to provide proficient writers with a forum to discuss and critique each other’s work. Critiques are intended to be constructive in nature. This is not a class or workshop for beginning writers but, rather, a forum for professional writers and those working to become professionals. The meetings will take place at the Studio. Refreshments will be provided.
There will be three writers’ groups to start with: poetry writers, fiction writers, and playwrights/screenwriters. All three will meet together briefly at this establishing meeting, laying the foundation for the sessions. Then they will break into their respective groups to outline the logistics and parameters for the critiques of their genres.
The writers’ groups will meet monthly, and will determine their own meeting days and times during this initial meeting. Writers should bring a sample of their work to be juried by the Studio’s Executive Director. Poets should bring two poems, fiction writers a short story or about ten pages of a longer work. Playwrights/screenwriters should bring a scene or about ten pages.
Writers are asked to call the Studio to RSVP ahead of time, at (810) 984-ARTS (2787) so the Studio can prepare for the participants.
