See the Trains; Meet the Artist
Posted September 20, 2011
Studio 1219 artist, Jenny Walker, has created a unique insight into Port Huron’s historic Grand Trunk Western Railroad Depot. Built in 1891, it was dubbed the “Tunnel Depot,” as it sat on 22nd Street, near the tunnel entrance. Studio 1219 offers the public an opportunity to meet the artist and view her amazing painting in the Desmond Gallery of the Studio, from 6pm to 9pm, Friday September 30th. Refreshments will also be served.
Mrs. Walker’s work was inspired by a 1910 photograph of the depot. “For the last six months, I lived the dream of stepping back in time and imagining what it might have been like – from the tall hanging electrical wires to the steam belching out of the engines. Most of all, I wanted the viewer to see the hustle and bustle of the passengers getting ready for travel.” The painting is for sale, and prints of the painting are available at the Studio.
Patrons will also have an opportunity to view the “More Than Mud” art show, that continues in the Van Gogh and Chase Galleries upstairs, as well as Karen Peterson’s exhibit in St. Clair County Community College’s Spiral Studio.
There is no admission charge.
