Posted March 27, 2011
Author/sailor/speaker Robert Weir returns to Port Huron to present “Great Crossings” 6pm Saturday, April 9 at Studio 1219 in Port Huron. Dinner and show is only $15.00 per person, and will be catered by Chef Shell. The presentation centers around Weir’s exciting account of his voyages last year as he sailed across the Atlantic on a tall ship, and later explored the Mediterranean, Aegean, Black, and Baltic seas.
Tickets are by advance reservation only and can be made by visiting the Studio or calling (810) 984-2787. There are also a limited number of show-only tickets available for $8.00. Weir is dedicating the Port Huron presentation to the life and work of friend Janice Littlefield.
The meal consists of a salad, oven roasted potatoes, green beans almadine, a selection of desserts and drinks, and choice of two entrees: sliced roast beef and Tilappia with baby shrimp.
Robert Weir is the author of “ Cobble Creek,” “Peace, Justice, Care of Earth,” and “Brain Tumor.” He was born in Port Huron in 1948, raised in Emmett, and graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary, Port Huron Catholic High School, and Port Huron Junior College. He lived in Port Huron again from 1998 to 2004 and has many friends in Emmett and the Port Huron area.
He was involved in BPAC, supported Fred Fuller’s work with Mill Creek, attended Unity Church of Blue Water on 17th Street, participated in Port Huron’s Season for Nonviolence, wrote materials for the St. Clair County Metropolitan Planning Commission (Master Plan for Land Use and outreach materials) and the Parks and Recreation Commission (Master Recreation Plan and outreach materials) and the County Library System (newsletters), and co-authored the Lake Huron to Lake Erie Biodiversity Atlas.
He is a member of Studio 1219 and the Port Huron Yacht Club, having sailed in six Port Huron-Mackinaw races.
He currently lives near Big Rapids, and is making plans for more travels (and stories) later in 2011, and considers himself to be a citizen of the world.
