Pink hair and feathers, pretty purses and bags, and a pampering chef are just a sampling of what will be on hand at the inaugural “Pampered for a Cause” party at Studio 1219. “Pampered for a Cause” is 2 to 6 p.m., Oct. 9, and kicks off the fifth annual “Art of Being a Woman” month at the Studio. The event will benefit the Studio and the Studio 1219 Breast Health Fund, which is split between Port Huron Hospitals Women’s Wellness Place and St. Joseph Mercy Port Huron Hospital. The money is used to help uninsured and underinsured women in St. Clair County get mammograms and related tests.
Admission to “Pampered for a Cause” is free, with portions of the sales from the party being donated to the Studio and the fund.
“We thought this would be a great way to kick off the month-long celebration,” Mary Lou Creamer, chairwoman for the “Art of Being a Woman,” said. “What we’re offering folks is a chance to come out for a relaxing afternoon of shopping and refreshments while helping both this great organization and people in the community.”
Pampered for a Cause participants include Thirty One, Party Lite, Pampered Chef, Miche Bags, Ainsley Creek Soaps, pink hair and feathers by Sheer Madness, chair massages, Studio 1219 artisan jewelers like Michelle Jensen and Christine McWilliams, and fair trade chocolate from the Art Imperatives.
Of course, the centerpiece of the day will be the bras that have been created by local members of the community. The creations will be featured in the Studio’s popular Bra Finale on Oct. 29.
“Those attending Pampered for a Cause also wills have a first chance to see the bras and purchase tickets to vote for their favorite,” Creamer said. “I don’t think there’s a person who doesn’t know someone that has been touched in some way by breast cancer. So we’re really hoping that people will come out Sunday and support this.”
Additional planned events include “The Art of Being a Woman: An Evening of Poetry and Music” on Oct. 13, and the “LUNAFEST” Film Festival, which features short films by, for and about women, on Oct. 20, and the Bra Finale, featuring area firemen. Voting for the bras continues through the month.
