Keith Steffke and Robert McGreevy
Posted July 24, 2008

We’re pleased to announce an exhibition by ship model builder Keith Steffke and maritime artist Bob McGreevy throughout the month of July and August. A wine and cheese reception will be open to the public on Friday August 15th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. A live presentation titled ‘The Pioneering Shipbuilding Industry in Southeastern Michigan’ by Steffke will begin at 7:00. There is no cost and it is a great opportunity to meet with the artists and discuss their work.
McGreevy’s works and presentation were highlighted in July and Steffke will be taking the spotlight in August with his presentation.
Steffke has been making museum quality models of historic Great Lakes ships, from scratch, for nearly thirty years. As a recognized maritime historian, lecturer and writer, Steffke has also built an enviable reputation for his skill in researching and depicting vessels from the former shipbuilding industry of southeastern Michigan. Because of his family’s involvement in the founding of this industry, his primary research interest has been the technological transition from wood to iron, and then steel, construction methods of shipbuilding along the Detroit River region covering the time period from the 1840’s to the 1920’s.
