It’s Time To Get Your Bras On!
Posted September 12, 2011
Save the dates—and start making those brassiere-works-of-art. E&A Credit Union, Woman’s Life, and Studio 1219 are proud to present Studio 1219’s Fifth Annual “The Art of Being a Woman!” The Bra Art deadline to the Studio is Sunday, October 2. This year’s firefighter-finale – when local firefighters model the top bras—will be Saturday, October 29 at 7pm at Studio 1219, 1219 Military Street, Port Huron. Entry is free, and the funds raised through the month support the Studio and the Studio’s Breast Health Awareness Fund (at the St. Clair County Community Foundation.) for local women.

Last year, over 110 bra-art entries were displayed in the Studio’s Van Gogh and Chase Galleries. Individuals and organizations have created some amazing, fun, and moving works of art out of brassieres to help the Studio raise money for the fund. Since its inception in 2007, the Studio’s fund has granted over $11,000 and helped more than 34 local uninsured and underinsured women get screenings and other medical needs at Port Huron and St. Joseph Mercy hospitals.
Save the dates for two new events that have been added this year to raise additional funds: “Pampered for a Cause” 1pm to 4pm on Sunday, October 9, and “The Slam” 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, October 13. “Pampered for a Cause” will feature ten to twelve vendors at the Studio – like Pampered Chef and Avon—a percentage of their pampered sales will go to the fund. “The Slam” features local talent entertaining for the cause with stand-up routines, music, poetry and more.
Also, be sure to join the Studio for the third annual LUNAFEST, 7:00pm Thursday October 20. Only $10 admission—which includes refreshments and a few surprises—to see amazing films by, for, and about woman. The films are sponsored by LUNA, nutrition for women. Besides supporting the Studio and the Studio’s Breast Cancer Fund, a portion of the proceeds from LUNAFEST go to the national Breast Cancer Fund. (Visit http://www.lunafest.org for more information on the films.)
