Calling All Munchkins and Toto for “THE WIZ!”
Posted June 13, 2011
Auditions for “Munchkins” and “Toto” for Port Huron Civic Theatre’s teen musical production of the Broadway show “THE WIZ” will be 6pm till 9pm, Tuesday, June 21 at the Civic Theatre’s rehearsal hall (in the outlet mall on Range and I-94) 1661 Range Road, Kimball, Michigan. For “Munchkins,” the Theatre is looking for children seven years and older who are under 48 inches tall. For the role of “Toto,” the show needs a small, well-trained (obedience and/or agility) dog like a Yorkie or mixed-breed of similar size.
“We’ve started rehearsals with the principals and ensemble for the show,” said the show’s director, Lee-Perry Belleau, Executive Director of Studio 1219. “Now it’s time to add the Munchkins and Dorothy’s dog, Toto, into the production.”
Auditionees will be asked to read a short passage from the show, and to sing 12 bars of a song they will learn from the show. Besides singing and reading, auditionees may also be asked to participate in a brief movement audition.
“THE WIZ!” is the crazy, street-wise musical version of L. Frank Baum’s book, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” and was nominated for eight Tony awards. Director Belleau has already cast 40 teens in the show.
Performances will be at McMorran Place Theatre in Port Huron, Friday,
Saturday and Sunday, July 29, 30 and 31. For more information on the audition, parents can contact the Theatre by email at , or by calling the Theatre at: (810) 984-0414.
