Breast cancer awareness month events promote early detection to save lives

Breast cancer is nothing to smile about.
But the concerted effort by many to put the spotlight on the disease this month, well, that makes me smile.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there are many activities going on in the area.
At Studio 1219 in Port Huron, decorated bras are on display this month, with visitors encouraged to donate to their favorite.
Saturday at the studio features Chicks Bustin’ Out, offing the things we women love - wine, manicures and vendors to peruse.
Proceeds from the various events help provide breast exams for uninsured and underinsured women in the community.
Other events are taking place:
Younker’s Clips ‘n Tips for Charity Oct. 20 at the store in Birchwood Mall offers haircuts for $10 and has informational and promotional booths.
A Strength Through Survival Tea Party and Fashion Show is 1-5 p.m. Oct. 21 at Fore Lakes Golf Club, 5810 Flinchbaugh Road, Kimball Township.
Photographer Rose Norton’s Strength Through Survivalexhibit is going to be on display.
Cost is 20 each or $174 for a table of 10.
