32 artists have created, competed, and are exhibiting in Studio 1219’s international show: “Inspired Art 2012: Jonah and the Whale.” The show is a unique collaboration between Studio 1219 and Bridges Church. Currently, the public is invited to vote for their favorite interpretation by visiting the Studio at 1219 Military Street in Port Huron. Votes cost a dollar, and will be announced—and split—with the People’s Choice winning artist at a wine and cheese pre-reception at the Studio from 3pm to 6pm on Saturday, May 19. Continue reading »
Inspired by the powerful imagery and meaning behind Picasso’s Guernica — a painting which was created for the Spanish Pavilion at the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris — producers of Studio 1219’s Picasso Becomes You event wanted to create a modern tie-in to the history associated with Picasso’s Guernica. So, the Port Huron Peace Mural was born, and will be unveiled on May 19 at McMorran in Port Huron in the finale of Studio 1219’s “Picasso Becomes You.” Continue reading »
Savvy area businesses are investing in the upcoming inaugural production of “Picasso Becomes You”, a fundraiser for Studio 1219, at 6:50pm on May 19 at McMorran Place. Picasso Becomes You is a unique blending of posed live art “models”—costumed and made-up to identically mirror Pablo Picasso’s paintings and sculptures—with a live theatrical performance in which the artwork comes alive to entertain and talk about its impact.
