Sally Ann Baker
I only began to paint three years ago after I retired but the dream has been there most of my life. Before that I was always the spectator. Living in London for twenty years gave me many opportunities to see the best that the world has to offer.
Visiting a new city had to include a trip to view it’s masterpieces. The Louvre, the Uffizi, London’s National Gallery, The Tate, and collections in Venice, Brussels, Milan, St. Ives, Edinburgh, Dublin : I’ve seen them all.
Weekends were spent going to exhibits of Picasso, Degas, Van Gogh. I was a member of The Friends of the Royal Academy of Art and saw some of Prince Charles’ watercolours there. I was like a sponge, absorbing all that I could.
Recently I began to paint with oils, but I started with watercolours because I mistakenly thought they would be “easy”.
I have tried acrylics, mixed media collage, and Chinese brush. I find pen and ink to be fun, and I use this a lot in journaling.
In order to let other artists see my work I started a blog, and I get feedback from encouraging folk from around the globe.
I am a member of The Black River Art Club and The Blue Water Art Association, and take part in their yearly Shows.
In addition to painting I also enjoy gardening, genealogy, and target shooting.
