Kirby Dale Smith
While I sculpt, the effective, cognitive and kinesthetic domains meld together. As I work with the form my instantaneous reactions are in direct response to the clay itself. I not only allow the clay its voice on its final form, I insist on it; knowing that our collaboration is necessary; it’s the best way for me to create superior quality, spontaneous clay sculpture.
A gallery director wrote,"Kirby gives lots of hints and suggestions, but lets you decide for yourself how you wish to identify his objects.”
Over the years I have worked hard to have my clay sculptures exhibited in galleries, competitions and in one man shows, and art fairs throughout Michigan.
I was a High School Art Instructor at Crystal Falls Forest Park, Bloomfield Hills, Cranbrook, Harper Woods Notre Dame and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. I retired in 2008 after 38 years of teaching.
