Greg Lashbrook

imageArtist Statement: “I have spent the last thirty-nine years viewing the underwater realm through the glass of my mask. My glass paintings are the direct reflections of those observations. I only paint what I have seen or experienced. I don’t feel I can do justice to a subject which I haven’t observed personally. Luckily my life has given me a wide choice of reference in which to draw from. Whether it was sea kayaking with Orcas off the northern tip of Vancouver Island, scuba diving the reefs of the British Virgin Islands, or swimming with 6 foot long sturgeons in the fast currents of the St Clair River, I have hundreds of mental images burned into my soul begging to be released. Over the past twenty years, I have been fortunate enough to be able to share these experiences with others through my paintings, sculptures, photography and film making.”

Reverse Painting On Glass:
The process of Reverse Painting requires the artist to begin with the finished details and work outwards to the background. Reverse Painting on Glass is a technique which was first exhibited in Germany in the 1700’s. Using clear glass the artist paints in reverse and when finished the glass is turned over to reveal the finished image. The image is then sealed with an acrylic clear coat to preserve the original artwork.
Greg also works in a variety of other mediums such as: lead & metal sculpture, clay, deep carved glass & stone, plastics and found objects.
