Bridget Jennings
Bridget Jennings was born in Detroit, MI in 1964. She began painting nearly 20 years ago after receiving a watercolor set from her father as a birthday gift. She was hooked immediately and has been painting ever since. Bridget began still life’s in watercolor and years later painted landscapes in acrylic. Her current works are in oil and are from areas near her home in Algonac, MI, which is on the St. Clair River. Cottages, boats and life of leisure are her favorite subjects. She also enjoys creating works from favorite vacation spots, such as Mackinac Island, Charleston, SC, Key West and Maine.
“My preferred painting style is alla prima (which means “at once” in Italian) using oils. This method of painting lends itself to painting quickly and instinctively. My favorite subject is nature because it provides endless inspiration. Having lived near the water my entire life, it seems to find its way into most of my work. Being near the water is important to me… it’s like fresh air and freedom! My goal is to capture the light, which I feel is one of the most important dynamics in a successful painting. I like to have my paintings flow from start to finish without interruption to avoid obstacles in the creative process”.
Although largely self taught, Bridget has attended numerous workshops and art lessons from other artists. “I love to read art books to get new ideas on how to approach a certain affect”.
